Avoid These Common Toothache Causing Foods

Avoid These Common Toothache Causing FoodsDo you have a toothache that has suddenly come on without any obvious cause? Is it possible that something you consumed could be the culprit? There are many foods that are known to trigger tooth pain, and avoiding them could help you to prevent a future toothache.

Citrus Fruit

If you have sensitive teeth, you should avoid lemons, oranges, grapefruit, limes, and pineapple. All of these fruits are highly acidic, which can make the teeth more sensitive. They might be nutritious, but eating them could cause tooth pain and sensitivity to get worse.

White Bread

White bread is soft, so many people find it hard to believe that it could be the source of any tooth problems. However, sandwich bread is made from refined carbohydrates, and when you chew it, the bread becomes a gummy paste. Those sticky particles get trapped between the teeth and in the ridges of the biting surfaces. Eventually, this could lead to erosion of the tooth enamel.

Soda

Soda is a double whammy when it comes to oral health. It is both sugary and acidic. This is one of the worst foods for sensitive teeth, and enamel erosion will ultimately lead to staining and cavities.

Ice

Ice is simply frozen water, so there can't be anything dangerous about that, right? Wrong! Ice can do some damage to your enamel, stripping it and leaving the teeth vulnerable to cavity-causing bacteria. Chewing ice can also crack fillings and chip the teeth, which can cause further toothaches.

Hard Candy

Peppermints, sour candies, butterscotches, and others are bad news for your teeth. Not only are they full of sugar, but they can also lead to breaking and chipping of the teeth.

A toothache that doesn't resolve soon after eating may be the sign of a bigger problem like a cavity, and this condition requires treatment. Call our office today to set up your next appointment.
