Posted on 11/8/2021 by Brandon Cooley
What Should You Know About Tooth Enamel Erosion?Your tooth has various parts such as the root, enamel, and crown. The outermost part of your tooth is the enamel. The tooth enamel helps your tooth against chemical and physical damage. The tooth enamel is hard and some say it is tougher than the bone. When you expose your teeth to various chemicals in foods or drinks, your tooth enamel becomes the first line of defense. Hence, it becomes susceptible to wear and tear. Your tooth enamel loss entails the wear and tear of your enamel.

Symptoms of Tooth Enamel Loss

When you start losing your tooth enamel, you will start by feeling a high level of sensitivity after taking hot or cold drinks. Also, you will begin to see cracks and chips on your teeth. Lastly, you may see some discoloration on your teeth. A continued enamel erosion leads to having yellow-stained teeth, tooth decay, and shiny spots on your teeth.

Enamel Erosion Causes

The foods you take are the leading causes of tooth enamel loss. Although the saliva neutralizes the acids present in your mouth, at times it cannot protect your tooth against immense exposure of your teeth to these acids. Eating sugary foods such as caramel and ice cream easily causes tooth enamel loss. Other foods in the same category include sodas, starch such as bread, citrus fruits, and juices. These foods increase the probability of you getting tooth enamel loss.

Note that your tooth enamel cannot regrow. Therefore its prevention is better compared to the cost of treatment. You need to continuously brush your teeth if partake in too many foods or drinks that have high acid levels.

Also, you can get a resin cover-up if your teeth have started decolorizing since it covers up the discolored part of your tooth. You should always ensure you practice great oral hygiene. For more information and inquiries about tooth enamel loss don not hesitate to contact us!
