4 Worst Items to Consume for Good Oral HealthMaintaining proper oral health is very important. Any dental practitioner always recommends developing good habits to maintain your oral health. Some practices that are highly recommended involve brushing at least twice daily, flossing regularly and visiting the dentist at least twice per year.

However, there is one that most people ignore, and it turns out to be one of the most important to keeping your teeth healthy and strong. This is watching the food you take. If you want to keep your teeth healthy and free of any plaque or cavities, there are certain foods you have to stay away from.

Foods to Stay Away From

One of the most common of these foods is bread. This is because of the starch broken down when the bread mixes with saliva. When this happens, the starch turns into sugars, turning the bread into a gummy like substance that sticks between the teeth causing cavities. Another food that you should stay away from is coffee. It can be very healthy in its natural form, but adding sugar to it and the caffeinated coffee may stain your mouth.

After coffee consumption, ensure that you take lots of water. If you want good oral health, another food that you should stay away from is sour candies. This is due to the different types of acid that they contain which are discouraged due to their toughness on the teeth. They are also chewy, and this makes them stay for longer on the teeth, making them very easy to cause a cavity. Another bad food to consume for good oral health are citruses such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits.

Even though they are tasty and packed with vitamin C, their acid content can easily erode the enamel, and this makes the teeth vulnerable to cavities.

Many foods and beverages cause plaque and we have seen how plaque affects the teeth. Most people who are from age seven to twenty suffer from cavities which make them have complications like tooth abscess, chewing problems and having pain in the teeth.
