If you suffer from a dry mouth and are wondering what is causing it, it could be snoring that is causing the problem.

When you snore, you usually do so with your mouth open. Snoring causes dry mouth but that is not the only thing it causes.

Snoring can Also be a Sign of Sleep Apnea

When you snore a lot, you should see a sleep specialist right away to ensure you do not have sleep apnea. Although you may have sleep apnea because of snoring, let us discuss the ways you can help relieve dry mouth at night time that may be caused by snoring.

Things to Cut Back on and Avoid
You should definitely cut back on caffeine, soda, and alcohol, during the day because they can cause a dry mouth at night. You should avoid any foods that include sugar and drinks that are acidic. By doing this, you can reduce the dry mouth you do have at night and stop getting up during the night just to get some water to drink.

Causes of Dry Mouth

There are many things that can cause a dry mouth. One thing is sleeping with your mouth open. You wake up and your mouth feels like it has a bunch of balls of cotton in it. Other causes include the different medications you take, and stress can cause a dry mouth. Meaning when you start feeling emotional and when you get nervous about something. However, snoring is a major problem that causes dry mouth as well.

Treatment for a Dry Mouth

The very first thing you should do is call your dentist and make an appointment to find out what the cause of your dry mouth is. However, there are things you can do at home, as well, to treat your dry mouth while you wait to see the dentist.

Some of them include keeping hydrated during the day with lots of water, brushing with a toothpaste with fluoride in it, use a humidifier at night while sleeping, and keep a glass of water beside your bed so you can grab it and take a drink.
