Could Your Teeth Be the Source of Your Migraines?

Could pain from a bad tooth be contributing to, or causing your migraines? Have you ever considered that this could be the source of your headache pain? The truth is, many aspects of the teeth in your upper jaw come eerily close to your brain.

Some of the roots of your teeth may even extend up into your sinus cavity. This means that if any of those teeth get infected, they could spread the pain upwards and make your head throb like never before.

What to Do if You Suspect a Tooth May Be Causing Your Migraines

The first thing you should do is to see your doctor to rule out any other causes of migraines, from specific trigger foods like chocolate or MSG, to something putting pressure on your brain. Once those have been ruled out, see your dentist.

They can perform a set of x-rays and see where in your jaw your roots extend to, and see if any of them are inflamed. If you do have an inflamed tooth, it can be dealt with and your migraines may go away with fixing that tooth. They can also see what condition your jaw joint, called your TMJ, may be in, as pain there could radiate straight up into your head.

Migraine pain is miserable, no matter who you are. It can ruin your day, and completely steal your quality of life. Going to your dentist may be the one cure for migraines that you never considered.

Go in and get checked out, and see if something as simple as a filling or a root canal could make your migraines a thing of the past. Your dentist is going to know what options you have once they see your x-rays, so contact our office to schedule your appointment today!
