Spring is finally on the horizon, and fortunately, that means warmer weather will soon be here. However, many people don't consider the fact that the warmer weather can affect our teeth - or rather, our reaction to the warmer weather can impact our teeth. Find out how. Warm Weather Treats There's nothing like a giant ice cream cone to help you cool off on a hot spring day. While you are certainly entitled to indulge once in a while, it is important that you are aware of the high sugar content in these treats. Also, since you may be enjoying your dessert outdoors with no immediate access to a toothbrush, those sugars will likely sit on your teeth for a while. Swimming As the weather warms up even further, you'll be ready to dive into your community swimming pool. Swimming is a great way to cool off and get exercise during the summer, but long-term chlorine exposure can be damaging to your teeth. Also take care when swimming so as to not hit your mouth on the bottom or sides of the pool. Sports and Outdoor ActivitiesThe warmer weather gives a lot more things to do outdoors, such as hiking, cycling, and playing sports. It is important that when you are engaging in any of these activities that you are protecting your teeth with a mouth guard. There are a variety of different mouth guard varieties out there, but the best option will be the one that you get from your dentist, as it is specially made to protect your unique teeth. Although there are a lot more activities available for you to do with the warmer weather, don't let your dental appointments fall by the wayside. If you are due for your dental appointment this spring or summer, please contact us today for your cleaning and exam. |
