Gum Bleeding Around One Tooth after Brushing

A person brushing their tongue with a toothbrushWhenever you brush your teeth and rinse off the toothpaste, what you expect to see is nice white teeth and not a bloody smile. Seeing that your teeth are bleeding after brushing can be scary, and there is a myriad of reasons why your gums can bleed around your teeth after brushing.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a common dental disorder that manifests as swollen, tender, and bleeding gums. It is the early stage of gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. If you see blood on your gums after brushing, it can be the first sign of this disease.

Changes in Your Dental Routine

Flossing daily is crucial for maintaining good oral health. If you notice bleeding around one tooth after brushing, it could be because you are flossing for the first time in a while. Regular flossing helps remove plaque and food particles that your toothbrush cannot reach, preventing gum disease and bleeding.

Aggressive Brushing

If you brush your teeth too vigorously, your gums may bleed. However, that does not mean you should stop brushing your teeth. All that you need to do is to change your toothbrush. Get a toothbrush that has soft bristles and brush softly. Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle, circular motions. Gum bleeding should stop after a week after changing your toothbrush and adjusting your brushing technique.

How to Stop Bleeding Gums

The first step in trying to stop the bleeding is to visit your dentist as soon as possible. Your dentist will examine your mouth and determine why the gums are bleeding in the first place. Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are also essential for maintaining good oral health and preventing gum bleeding.

The easiest way to prevent gum bleeding is by observing optimum dental hygiene. By simply brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day to remove dental plaque from the surface of your teeth, you can optimize your oral health and feel empowered to maintain it.
